Priory School GCSE Results

GCSE Results 2025 Today’s results mark the culmination of five years of dedication, resilience, and unwavering support from everyone involved in guiding our young learners through their examinations within the broader context of disrupted learning and ongoing recovery. This cohort of students began secondary school during one of the most disruptive periods in education history, facing unprecedented challenges of remote learning, social isolation and academic uncertainty during a vulnerable transition period. We are extremely proud of how they have responded to these circumstances – with determination, maturity, and a commitment to their futures. Despite the challenges, our students have achieved outcomes that remain above both local and national averages, which is a testament to their hard work and the support of their families and teachers. This year, 30% of grades awarded were top grades (grade 7 and above), 61% were a strong pass (grade 5) or better and 75% were a standard pass (grade 4) and above, reflecting strong academic achievement across the board. We celebrate these achievements not just for the grades themselves, but for what they represent: perseverance, growth, and the ability to overcome adversity. Our students leave us equipped not only with academic qualifications, but with the values and skills that will help them thrive in the next stages of their lives. They have shown curiosity, discipline, and persistence in their studies; kindness, honesty, and respect in their relationships; and aspiration, imagination, and optimism in their outlook. We are confident that they will go on to achieve great things and contribute positively to the world around them. It has been a privilege to support them, and we wish them every success as they take their next steps with well-earned pride and confidence.

Connors5 visit to Priory

On Monday, 13th January we welcomed Darran Saunders to Priory who gave a moving and powerful talk to all students about the importance of promoting peace and non-violence.  Darran's son Connor had his life brought to an abrupt end by one senseless, unprovoked punch on 14th April 2012. Darran's inspirational message truly embodied our values of honesty, kindness and respect and helped our students understand the importance of finding courage in the face of adversity.

Ex Year 11 Celebratory Event

Last week we invited last year’s Year 11 students to a special celebratory event at The Corn Exchange, Lewes Town Hall. Joined by the Mayor of Lewes, Councillor Imogen Makepeace, this event is about looking to the future by also connecting positively with the past, as well as locating the school securely at the heart of the Lewes community. The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the Edgar Povey Trophy for Integrity and Honour, presented to the winner, Hanna Vincze, by Priory School’s first winner of the trophy, 54 years ago David Carter! It was a wonderful evening.

A Christmas Tree at Priory

We would like to place a real Christmas Tree in our Reception area at Priory this year.  Can you help?  Do you  know any local businesses which would be able to donate one, along with a stand?  We would then find a good home for another family to enjoy once school closes over Christmas.  If you can help, please call 01273 476231 x201 (Emma) or x312 (Amanda) or email ejh@priory.e-sussex.sch.uk.

Russ Cook, aka Hardest Geezer visit!

On Wednesday we had a very exciting visit from Russ Cook, aka Hardest Geezer! Last year, Russ accomplished his mission to be the first person to run the entire length of Africa, raising over a million pounds for charity and inspiring people worldwide. Russ shared his experiences with Year 7 and 8, talking about some of trials that he had to overcome and the power of persistence and teamwork in the face of adversity: "if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together". Students were very excited to meet a local Sussex hero and were hopefully inspired to strive for adventure in their own futures.

Bikeability at Priory

This week we will have seen almost 40 Year 7 students complete their Bikeability Level 3 course, led by Sarah and Ed, the fantastic Bikeability Instructors from East Sussex County Council.  The course gives students the skills needed to navigate challenging roads and traffic situations and encourages them to think independently and make informed decisions.  One student said "The course is fun and great because we are learning how to ride safely on the road - I now know what 'giving way' means". If your child has missed the opportunity to attend one of our courses in school Bikeability also run courses during the holidays.  Click here to find out more.
