Tony is an experienced Headteacher having been in his current post since 2010. He has worked in schools in a variety of contexts and has an understanding of the challenges faced by school leadership. Prior to his appointment to Headteacher he was a Deputy Headteacher for 11 years including a two-year secondment to the Local Authority as a 14-19 development manager.

As Headteacher of Priory School Tony has led the support for 4 schools (through formal partnerships agreements) since 2010 being Executive Headteacher on two occasions in the last 3 years.

Tony was designated as a National Leader of Education (NLE) in 2017 and is one of the NLEs delivering the Tailored Support Programme (TSP).

Current Leadership Responsibilities:

Tony is current Executive Headteacher of Priory and a partner primary school. Tony is a member of the East Sussex Teaching School Alliance and sits on the School to School Support strategic group.

Tony is also a member of the East Sussex School Improvement Board as the secondary representative for the East Sussex Teaching Schools.

Julian qualified as an English teacher in 1991. He has also taught Media Studies, Citizenship, Travel and Tourism and the ill-fated but worthy Project qualification as part of the Level 2 Diploma programme. He is now very much enjoying getting to grips with gerundives and perfect participles in GCSE Latin.

Julian believes passionately in inclusivity, personalisation and accessibility.

Paul Holt - NPQML Course Tutor

Paul is a practitioner with a track record of improving outcomes. His leadership of Classical Subjects at Priory School has not only seen an increase in external outcomes at the end of Key Stage 4, but a complete overhaul of the curriculum for the subjects he oversees. Paul has worked hard managing a team to increase the accessibility and appeal of Classical subjects at Priory School, and has been successful in having the most amount of pupils in a state school in England studying Latin.

Paul’s leadership strengths have been utilised since he gained SLE accreditation in 2018 and he has gone on to deliver 2 rounds of the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders (NPQML) course. Paul currently works alongside a local Primary school to improve the teaching and learning of practitioners in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Paul’s work with the University of Sussex means he is able to use up to date educational research as an effective Professional Tutor for ITE colleagues at Priory School and other colleagues amongst the Teaching Alliance.

Gill Miles-Lewis - OTP Course Tutor

Gill has over 15 years’ experience delivering practical subjects and is currently subject leader for Food and Nutrition. She has also been a Head of PE. She has planned and delivered programmes of study which have allowed students of all abilities to achieve excellent results at GCSE and A’Level. Gill also has an extensive portfolio of exam board assessment work which has allowed her to offer in depth insight into the assessment process allowing for coherent planning.

Gill is an ITT mentor and is currently involved with recruiting and training ITT trainees as well as coaching more exerienced teachers.

Nicola is an experienced and highly committed Curriculum Leader in PE.
